Coca-Cola has announced that it would cease operations in Russia

Coca-Cola announced on Tuesday that it will cease operations in Russia, following a growing number of firms that have bowed to public pressure over the Ukraine conflict.

It joins a growing list of businesses that have left Russia in the aftermath of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

McDonald’s stated earlier Tuesday that it will temporarily close its 850 outlets in Russia after being pressured on social media to stop doing business in the nation.

During the closure, the Chicago-based fast food chain will continue to pay its 62,000 Russian employees.

McDonald’s president and CEO Chris Kempckinski thanked the company’s Russian employees in a letter to employees, saying they “poured their heart and energy into our McDonald’s brand.”

“We cannot disregard the terrible human tragedy happening in Ukraine because of our beliefs,” Kempczinski stated.

Meanwhile, WeWork announced that it will close its offices in Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine, just days after its CEO suggested an exit was unlikely while praising the company’s success in the country.
