The Walt Disney World has changed the mask requirement rule for the guests to enter the theme park, following the updated CDC guidelines for COVID-19. The news was announced on Friday stating that the face coverings will be “optional in outdoor areas”, for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people
However, the announcement also mentions that all the guests and cast members “must wear face coverings from the entrances at all attractions, theaters or transportation and throughout those experiences.” Besides, face coverings are still mandatory while entering a queue until the exit, and while using Walt Disney transportation.
CNN explained the new rule giving the analogy, “if you’re walking down Main Street, U.S.A., you don’t have to wear a mask but if you’re riding Space Mountain, you’ll still have to.”
As per the update, guests must wear masks at all times when indoors, with exception to dining or swimming. Therefore, guests can temporarily remove their masks when they are “actively eating, drinking.”
Although these changes have eased mask requirement for the guests of the Walt Disney World, the employees are still required to keep their masks on at all times, both in indoor and outdoor settings.
These changes will be put in place from Saturday, 15th May 2021.
The update also mentioned what kind of masks will be acceptable. The update read, “All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:
- Be made of at least 2 layers of breathable material
- Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
- Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- Be secured with ties and ear-loops and allow the Guests to remain hands-free”
The company further stated, “Based on the guidance from authorities, neck-gaiters, open chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves, mesh materials or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings.” Besides, the costume masks are also prohibited.
This is to say, Walt Disney World has not completely eliminated the mask requirement, but has made it optional at certain places and situations.
Previously, Disney had eased its policy on shields for its employees and eradicated temperature screening for guests. The company had also stated that they will be making more gradual adjustments, as the guidelines continue to evolve.
