Over Nine Days, Paris Fashion Week Will Feature 107 Houses.

Monday marked the beginning of Paris Fashion Week, with a Jean Paul Gaultier protégé walking the runway first. Tuesday brings the first significant day of ready-to-wear shows at Paris Fashion Week, including Saint Laurent and Dior. The 107 companies presenting spring-summer 2023 collections include these Parisian titans.

First day of the Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week is a twice-yearly series of designer presentations held in Paris, France, comprising events for the spring/summer and the fall/winter seasons, respectively. The French Fashion Federation determines the timing. Locations throughout the city host Paris Fashion Week.

Men’s and haute couture displays are held semi-annually for the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons, in addition to ready-to-wear shows. Additionally, renowned companies like Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Kenzo, Givenchy, and Céline stage their fashion shows at historic locations like the Grand Palais and Carrousel du Louvre each year.

The opening day often focuses on up-and-coming designers. The womenswear spring/summer 2023 show was opened by 28-year-old Victor Weinsanto, a former dancer who trained under Jean Paul Gaultier before establishing his label in 2020.

Weinsanto, who was influenced by other emerging designers, claims that his collection is a “expression of love” for his generation.

The fashion designer, who just gained bright orange hair, asserted that consumers today want their attire to express “creativity, independence, craziness, and fun.”

We seek escape, he declared.

Like many of his generation, he emphasizes inclusion and sustainability, using leftover inventory from other firms for practically all of his creations.

He stated that “both mother and daughter” were planned to wear the clothes.

Additional zeitgeist references: Weinsanto’s show featured a collection made especially for K-Pop idols Lights, who made a virtual appearance via holograms after the catwalk show.

In the Metaverse, the digital collection will be sold as NFTs.

Weinsanto admitted he was fascinated by online fashion, while not thinking it was crucial to the business.

He continued, “You really can set yourself free.” “I want to get beyond 3D,”

More than 100 companies are listed on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar.

Following the shift online during the Covid-19 outbreak, almost all, including Dior, Chanel, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, and Issey Miyake, have returned to live runway displays.

The focus is on Victoria Beckham, who made her runway debut at Paris Fashion Week after showing in New York and London.

Despite earning favourable reviews since Beckham made her debut as a designer in 2008, her company has had trouble turning a profit. A back office that was recently reconfigured is seeking for a lift in Paris.

Highlights

BOTTER

Tuesday’s co-ed BOTTER presentation included clean lapels, boxy jackets, and poetic cutaways were the sartorial and the aquatic collided. They looked stunning in vibrant suits.

Again, boldly colored statement-making sneakers contrasted with fashionable suit wear that occasionally had marbled lines to resemble sea monster tentacles.

On one guy model who shuffled down the catwalk wearing a blue knit mask covering his entire face and transparent globules on his hands, distressed double denim continued the undersea theme. He appeared to have been attacked by a jellyfish as a result. Or was the play put up by Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh another jab at the coronavirus outbreak?

STARS AND STRIPES ARE BROUGHT TO PARIS BY VAQUERA

A flare of American funk greeted Paris for Monday’s installment of fashion week, a day designated for up-and-comers. Vaquera, who gained notoriety in New York five years ago with a U.S. flag gown and voluminous train, moved to London this season and was a highlight.

For spring-summer, designers Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee combined their edgy ensembles with more commercially oriented ones. Distressed denim, Vivienne Westwood’s heyday punk exuberance, corsetry, and copious Americana influences (such as a loose, sheeny biker jacket) defined the frequently sellable 31-look exhibition.

The American flag made a comeback on the runway, this time as a sheer shawl that flowed into a stunning inflating parachute skirt.

THE LIFE OF LANCOME IS BEAUTIFUL

One of Paris’s most recognizable cosmetic and fragrance companies, Lancome, was honored at the season’s first big event.

VIP attendees, including model Noemie Lenoir, were welcomed Monday night into the opulent Petit Palais location by the banks of the Seine River by a stone stairway speckled with colored light.

Tenth Anniversary

This year, L’Oreal-owned Lancome celebrated the tenth anniversary of their best-selling “La Vie Est Belle” (life is beautiful) fragrance. Sara Sampaio, Victoria’s Secret model, attended the event at the renowned art gallery while wearing a frilly black mini.
