In a recent exclusive interview with NBC, Russian President Vladimir Putin talked about his upcoming meeting with President Biden, which will take place in Geneva. Not only did Putin talked about the current President of US, he praised former President Donald Trump as well.
During the interview, Putin compared the current and former President US, and called Trump an “extraordinary man”, while he described Biden as a career man. The interview took place a few days ahead of the meeting of the two greatest leaders of the world.
Talking about Donald Trump, Putin told interviewer Keir Simmons of NBC, “Well even now, I believe that former U.S. president Mr. Trump is an extraordinary individual, talented individual, otherwise he would not have become U.S. president. He is a colorful individual. You may like him or not. And, but he didn’t come from the U.S. establishment. He had not been part of big-time politics before, and some like it, some don’t like it but that is a fact.”
On the other hand, Putin described Joe Biden as a career man with great experience in politics. According to Putin, Joe Biden “is radically different from Trump because President Biden is a career man. He has spent virtually his entire adulthood in politics,”
Putin added, “That’s a different kind of person, and it is my great hope that yes, there are some advantages, some disadvantages, but there will not be any impulse-based movements, on behalf of the sitting U.S. president.”
The conflicting past of the two countries and the leaders is known by the world. Currently, US relations with Russia is at the “lowest point in recent years”, as stated by Putin.
NBC’s Keir Simmons also mentioned Biden’s past comments about Putin, when Biden called Putin a “killer” accusing him of killing or imprisoning his political adversaries. Putin answered, “I don’t want to come across as being rude, but this looks like some kind of indigestion except that it’s verbal indigestion. You’ve mentioned many individuals who indeed suffered and perished at different points in time for various reasons, at the hands of different individuals.”
Given the previous conflicts and the recent cyber-attacks on US by Russia, Biden and Putin’s meeting will a major highlight of Biden’s first international tour since he took office. As stated by the White House, USA’s aim for the meeting to make more “predictable” and “stable” relations with Russia.
