An Airbnb vacation rental in Spain is getting a lot of attention for looking eerily similar to the staircases seen on the Netflix sensation “Squid Game.”
Known as “La Muralla Roja” which translates to the Red Wall, the apartment complex was designed by Ricardo Bofill in 1968, and built in 1973 – long before the acclaimed show made its way to our television screens.
What looks almost like a fortress or a labyrinth, the reinterpretation of the Kasbah and the adobe buildings of North Africa features three types of residences: studios, and two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Fifty homes are scattered throughout the complex and accessed through a collection of patios and the staircases.
The colorful walls and dramatic setting are situated on top of rocky cliffs overlooking the Balearic Sea in Manzanera, Calpe.
Previously, the vibrant colors are what has given La Muralla Roja its name and its fame (before “Squid Game“). The various shades of red on the exterior contrast with the landscape while the light blue, indigo and violet colors painted on the patios and stairs were intended to blend in with the sky.
Prices range from $110 to $270 per night.
Features of each residence include ocean views from the balcony with building amenities that come with a swimming pool and roof terrace.
