On December 7, most boats were elevated in the stock market, as investors appeared to have overcome their concerns about the latest coronavirus strain.
Semiconductor stocks led the way, outperforming the overall market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA gained 492 points, or 1.4 %, to 35,719, while the S&P 500 Index SPX gained 2.1 %, with 90 percent of equities rising. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, which is weighted toward technology, increased by 3%.
The PHLX Semiconductor Index SOX outperformed them all, rising 5% to conclude with a 43 % for 2021 after setting a new high earlier in the day. The iShares Semiconductor ETF SOXX tracks the chipmaker benchmark index.
On December 7, Nvidia Corp. NVDA outperformed the other 30 equities in the SOXX portfolio.
